I need your help! Ever since I heard of the catastrophic oil spill in our Gulf Region I have been glued to the TV. Like most concerned Americans I feel heartbroken, angry, but most of all compelled to step up and play a more proactive role in shaping how the issue of clean and dirty energy is addressed in America. My plan is to document through film the stories and struggles of real people affected by the BP Oil Spill and those of the Upper Big Branch mine explosion that happened back in April. My focus will be to highlight the human and environmental costs of using fossil fuels as our primary energy source in America. This documentary is not meant to be driven by politics or placing blame, but rather fairly assessing the cost through first-hand storytelling of those directly impacted by these specific tragedies. What I need from you is support. Due to the urgency of this matter I will not be making many calls to raise money. I will be literally packing my bags and driving down to Louisiana this week with a camera, tent and a whole lot of oatmeal and instant noodles and see who will talk to me. I'm not concerned with the famous politicians, but the idle marinas filled with boats and fisherman and the store-owners that don't know how to make it through the summer. In return, I offer the personal satisfaction that you are contributing to a capable messenger that will do everything possible to create a film that will be as powerful in its imagery as it is memorable in its message. I will provide frequent updates of my work, progress, and struggles; so that you can be there with me. Contributors will have access to behind the scenes photos and videos as I take them and will be able to interact with me on a daily basis during the filming process as I am in the field. All I ask is that you please take a moment to see if you can help me in any way possible, whether its monetarily or by raising awareness about this film to someone who can contribute. I still need more equipment to make the most of this trip as well as cash for gas, food and shelter. The events that have taken place over the last couple of months, I believe we can spark a shift in the momentum of the nation, but only if we truly grapple with the costs to others and to our environment and never forget.
Sincerely,
Bryan D. Hopkins
